Sometime during 1979 "‘t Vrij Uurke" sprung from the "CHIRO"- Youth Movement in Zedelgem (West-Flanders). On May 11th 1979 the group was officially baptized as a "folkdance group". After having learned to practice mostly foreign dances during the initial years, the group later switched to Flemish dances, in order to propagate the own culture on a larger extent. Zedelgem is located in Western Flanders, in the vicinity of Bruges and Torhout and only 20 km away from the Flemish Coast.
The group is momentarely composed of 70 members and has it’s own musicians.
