First "Ratte Vyncke"-award

Through the "Ratte Vyncke" Award, tribute is being paid to a person or society having especially contributed to propagating the European idea or to the aspiration of the Europe of the nations. Amaat "Ratte" Vyncke (1850-1888) was in his days already an example of a European mind. Beside his manifold contacts with the leaders of the "Flemish Movement" he was as well examplary in his social conscience and his dedication to both culture and society life. After 10 years of activity folklore-group " ‘t Vrij Uurke " deservedly received the first "Ratte Vyncke Award", not only because of the organisation of an international folk art festival, but also for their efforts in propagating the Flemish culture in Europe, with appearances in Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Hungary...
